EXPERIENCE

Why visit Barcelona driving a SEAT 600?

Because it's the chance to be a 'Sunday driver' while you're on holiday! Driving through Barcelona in a Seat 600 means driving one of the city's most iconic vehicles. On your own or in a special guided caravan tour, Trip Troop offers you an unforgettable adventure. Driving a Seat 600 is a truly authentic experience. This car is deeply rooted in our culture, and everyone has a story about the many adventures made possible by the 600. Starting in the 1960s, it was the vehicle of choice for city tours, family outings, picnics, afternoons at the beach and trips to the mountains. Manufactured in the Barcelona Free-Trade Zone, it was the first car that anyone could afford. Travelling in a Seat 600 has become part of the history of an entire country. Come enjoy a Trip Troop experience!

What do I need to take part in a Trip Troop experience?

· To enjoy a Trip Troop experience, you need to have grown up in the analogue era, when a VHS tape was considered high-tech and all cars were manual - like our Seat 600. If you are under 21 years of age or you can only drive cars with an automatic transmission, find yourself a driver and you can join the Trip Troop Experience as a co-pilot.

· "Birds of a feather flock (or in this case, drive) together." You just need a passport or government-issued ID to climb inside one of our 600s.

· Our cars may be old, but your driving license had better not be. Please check the expiration date of your driving license before booking your Trip Troop experience.

· We have to be just a little bit modern to be Trip Troop in the 21st century. With this in mind, you'll need your credit card. A deposit will be placed on your card before you leave on the big day. This will be taken back off at the end, when you return the car safe and sound.

DEPOSIT

How much is the deposit?

Before starting a tour or hiring the car for a self-guided tour, we ask for your credit card to place a hold on it as a deposit in the amount of €450

This temporary deposit will be automatically released as soon as you return the car safe and sound after your experience.

DRIVING LICENSES AND DRIVERS

Which driving licenses are recognized in Spain?

1. Driving licenses from any country in the EU.

2. International licenses valid for driving in Spain.

3. Driving licenses from: Algeria, Andorra, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Iceland, Japan, Lichtenstein, Macedonia, Morocco, Nicaragua, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Serbia, South Korea, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, Uruguay and Venezuela.

4. Driver’s License from every country written in Spanish.

Can we switch drivers?

Unfortunately, no. By law, the insurance only covers the driver named in the contract.

PASSENGERS

How many elephants can you fit inside a 600?

We never remember how this joke ends, but we can tell you that 4 people fit inside a Seat 600. Children must be over the age of 3 and ride in the back seat. The car's design does not enable child safety seats to be used. Oh, yeah! We just remembered the thing about the elephants. The answer is also four.

TOURS

Where is the meeting point at the start of the tours?

If there's one thing that's bound to be around for a long time in Barcelona, it's Sagrada Familia church and all its cranes, so all our tours start off from Gaudí’s greatest work. You'll receive the exact address in the confirmation email sent when you book your Trip Troop experience.

How long do the tours last?

Like the old saying goes, everything in its own time. Each Trip Troop Experience has a different duration. For more information, please visit the ‘Services’ section on our website.

Do we make any stops during the tours?

Like the good ‘Sunday drivers’ that we are, we love stopping along the way to enjoy the views, rest or just to have a chat. This way we can get to know each other, share opinions, bombard our tour guides with questions and take a look at our Trip Troop souvenirs. Depending on the length of the tour, we will make either one or two stops.

What happens if I am late?

Better late than never, but if it’s only 5 minutes, so much the better. We recommend arriving 15 minutes before the start of your Trip Troop experience. This gives us time to explain how everything works, and you can familiarize yourself with the vehicle. We’ll give you a 5-minute grace period, but after that, if you still haven’t shown any signs of life, we can’t guarantee you’ll be able to join the tour.

TRAFFIC INCIDENTS AND OTHER DETAILS

What happens if I get separated from the tour due to traffic or just by mistake?

You'll have a little adventure, but after that moment of euphoria and confusion, take a look at the GPS on the dashboard. It shows the route that the caravan is following, so you will always know where the various points are along the route and the final destination. Try to catch up with us as soon as possible, because it's much more fun to take the tour together.

Will I have to stop at a petrol station?

Don’t worry about petrol. We know it’s fun to stop at the petrol station to buy ‘Catalan rumba’ cassettes, and you’re welcome to do so, but you won’t need to fill the fuel tank. Regardless of whether you’ve booked a caravan tour or are hiring the vehicle to go out on your own, your 600 will come with a full tank and we’ll take care of refilling it.

What happens if I get a traffic ticket?

Take it easy there, driver. You’re behind the wheel of a real machine: four cylinders, rear-wheel drive, 21.5 CV at 4600 rpm, and a top speed of 95 km/hr. Ok, we admit it, you’re not likely to get a speeding ticket, but you still have to pay attention to lane changes, traffic lights, parking, etc. because our local police department is short on funds and loves to issue tickets. If Trip Troop receives a fine that matches the date of your rental, we’ll charge the amount to your credit card. Please note that the Traffic Department can take up to 2 or 3 months to notify us of the fine, and that’s when the charge will be passed on. We apologise for this delay, which is completely beyond our control.

BOOKING

How can I pay for my Trip Troop reservation?

Ever since they did away with the peseta, all Trip Troop reservations are booked online. The easiest way to pay is with your credit or debit card or cash.

Can I change my reservation?

You sure can, as long as you let us know by email at least 24 hours before the start of the tour/car hire. You can change dates a maximum of two times. The third time is the charm, as they say.

If I cancel the reservation, will I get my money back?

If you cancel your booking, you’ll miss out on the chance to see Barcelona aboard a charming, comfortable, powerful and agile Seat 600. Don’t do it! Don’t miss out! But if there’s no other choice, you’ll be refunded the full amount of your reservation as long as you cancel at least 24 hours before the departure of the tour or car pick-up time. If you cancel your booking less than 24 hours before the tour/car hire, a 50% penalty applies. Entrance fees for museums, shows and/or attractions are non-refundable.

INSURANCES AND BREAKDOWNS

Are the cars insured?

You bet. The mandatory insurance covers all damage suffered by third parties and roadside assistance for drivers and passengers in the event of a breakdown or an accident. But be warned! If you mistreat one of our beloved SEAT 600s, you’ll be responsible for any damages. So drive carefully, friend!

What does the insurance cover?

The insurance covers:

The mandatory insurance covers damage to third parties and roadside assistance for drivers and passengers in the event of a breakdown or accident.

The insurance does NOT cover:

Damage to the vehicle that is caused by the customer is not covered. If this occurs, the amount of the repair will be discounted from your deposit. If excess of the deposit should be paid, you will be charged the difference between excess and deposit on this credit card.
